Dietrich Grabas, born 1950

  • Sign and poster painter for DEWAG Advertising Berlin (1971-76); first artistic activities

  • Evening studies at the art academy Berlin-Weißensee (1975-78)

  • Graphic designer at the Humboldt University in Berlin (1977-86)

  • Ban of employment as a visual artist in 1982 and 1983 (rejection of the application for membership in the Association of Visual Artists on political grounds)

  • Released from GDR citizenship and emigrated to West Berlin (1986)

  • Since 1987 member of the Professional Association of Visual Artists (painter & graphic artist)

  • Many years of activity as a lecturer at the youth art school in Berlin-Charlottenburg

  • Previously working as a freelance artist in Berlin

Exhibitions

  • Numerous solo exhibitions in East and West Berlin, Warsaw, Budapest, Nice.

  • Participation in various group exhibitions, including the exhibition “Expatriated. Artists from the GDR and from the Soviet sector of Berlin 1949-1989" in Dresden, Albertinum from October 7 to December 12, 1990 and in Hamburg, Kleine Deichtorhalle from January 10 to March 1, 1991

  • Most recently at the exhibition "The Wild 80s in East & West German Painting" from December 3, 2016 - March 12, 2017 in the Potsdam Museum - Forum for Art and History
